Howdy beerthusiasts! Welcome to 2022 - the year of the Craft Cube!

The past 18 months have been an experience to say the least. A huge thank you to everyone for your support in our little journey so far, and I can’t wait to show you all what we have lined up for the next 12 months.

After a brief break over xmas, we’re back and better than ever with one hell of a February cube. We went west and came back with beers from West Coast legends Rocky Ridge, Blasta Brewing and relative newcomers to the scene Spinifex Brewing. From the East, we’ve got more from Two Rupees, Bodriggy, Edge Brewing and Land & Sea. The resulting cube features a mix of styles including a crisp pilsner, a few IPA’s, a sour and something dark and mystical…

As always, I’d love to hear what you think about the cube contents, what you’d like to see in future cubes or any breweries that you think we should hit up - feel free to sling me an email at cheers@mrmods.beer or tag us in your IG posts (@mrmods.beer).

Mad love and thanks for the support.

Love Rob x

Tasting Notes

Two Rupees - Seventh Heaven NEIPA 6% ABV

Suggested Glass - IPA Glass Serving Temp - 6-8°

What they say - Our New England IPA has a pillowy soft base of pale malt, wheat & oats, with the heavenly hop combo of citra and mosaic bringing the juicy, tropical flavours of mango, pine, citrus & stone fruit. Float away in the deliciousness  of the seventh heaven NEIPA!

What we say - From the get go, you know this is going to be good. With a smooth mouthfeel loaded with tropical fruit and an aroma dominated by pineapple and mango, this delivers everything the brewers describe by the bucketload. Sit down, strap in and enjoy.

Two Rupees - FOMO XPA 4.2% ABV

Suggested Glass - Pint Glass Serving Temp - 4-6°

What they say - An extremely crisp and smashable extra pale ale dripping with juicy tropical and stone fruit flavours from Idaho 7. Expect notes of pineapple, peach, mango, and hint of black tea.

What we say - Given the current weather we’re experiencing, most of Australia is feeling like a tropical zone so cold beer loaded with tropical fruit flavours and aromas is a perfect fit pretty much wherever you are. This has a subtle haze, and not so subtle fruit hits (mango, peach and pineapple) and goes down way too easy on these hot, Australian summer days.

Rocky Ridge - Karl Needs Assistance 9 DIPA 9% ABV

Suggested Glass - IPA Glass Serving Temp - 8-10°

What they say - Lean malt body supporting big hop additions. Pine, grapefruit, apricot and more pine dominate with a hefty bitterness and some booze sweetness all combine to create a beer which if you aren’t careful with Karl won’t be the only one requiring assistance.

What we say - This almost required a name change to “Rob Needs Assistance” - Imagine pouring a DIPA into a glass…there is the slightest of haze, and almost immediately an aroma of pine and grapefruit become apparent. Now, add more pine to that and you’re getting close to what we actually have here. The high ABV is noticeable, however in this instance it works really well in delivering one hell of a beer, as well as a muscle relaxant to help with those knots in your back caused by standing behind a coffee machine for the past 4 months…

Rocky Ridge - Unfiltered Pilsner 4.5% ABV

Suggested Glass - Pilsner Glass Serving Temp - 3-4°

What they say - Cracker malts with noble hops that give a herbaceous, fresh cut hay note. Firm cleansing bitterness enhances drinkability in our nod to the king of lagers.

What we say - This could well be the perfect gateway beer for those wanting to start their craft journey. No frills, just a straight out banging pilsner. Clean, fresh and crisp, this has a malty backbone with that subtle sweetness at the back of the palate wrapped up with a nice little bitterness.

Blasta Brewing - Big Brekkie of Champs Stout 7.3% ABV

Suggested Glass -  Goblet/Tulip Glass Serving Temp - 8-10°

What they say - BIG Brekkie Of Champs is one of our most complex releases to date. This creation is an integration of six specialty malts including generous additions of organic maple syrup, coffee, cacao and vanilla. The result offers balance & elegance whilst being tied together by our signature Blasta drinkability. You will find robust, silky and luscious flavours enclosed under a soft tan layer of vanilla foam. Enjoy anytime...including sunrise

What we say - Some people may say it’s too early in the year to drink a stout. We say that nobody needs that kind of negativity in their lives. Pouring a gorgeous thick black with a tan head, this is something that could definitely act as a breakfast replacement on a Sunday morning, or a night before breakfast while sitting outside and listening to some music with mates. The chocolate and coffee make themselves immediately apparent while the maple and vanilla poke their heads up at the back of the palate with a subtle “what’s going on here” kind of vibe.

Edge Brewing - Psycho Killer IRL 6.7% ABV

Suggested Glass - Pilsner Glass Serving Temp - 6-8°

What they say - A rich and smooth Imperial Red Lager from the good folks at Edge, which uses a mix of Australian and NZ hops. Biscuit, toffee malt, and a delightfully crisp finish. Now the beer's sorted, all you need to do is put on Talking Heads and dance the night away!

What we say - I remember having this a few years back and loving it, so when I saw that it has been brewed again, I just knew that I had to grab it! Pouring an amazing red, this is loaded with biscuit and burnt toffee vibes with a nice piney, resiny bitterness that just lingers at the back of the palate.

Spinifex Brewing - Honey Myrtle Ale

Suggested Glass - Pint Glass Serving Temp - 4-6°

What they say - This fruity hand-crafted Ale that has been

infused with honey myrtle sourced from regional Western Australia. This beer imparts a rich nectar and fruity flavours creating an ale with great character and charm. Perfect for informal weekend afternoons with family and friends. The Honey Myrtle gives depth and flavour of a nice Pale Ale of full strength.

What we say - I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. Pouring an almost amber colour reminiscent of the red dirt found in the West Australian desert, this had an extremely unique aroma to it - fruity yet floral at the same time. The addition of the honey myrtle truly takes this up a notch, adds a subtle sweetness without being too overpowering and turns it into an amazing ale that could become extremely dangerous on a hot day…

Land and Sea - Mango Sour 3% ABV

Suggested Glass - Tulip Glass Serving Temp - 2-4°

What they say - Ripe, juicy & tropical. Kettle soured using our house lactoculture & fermented Queensland grown mangoes, this lightly hopped sour ale pours hazy & finishes velvety smooth.

What we say - Land and Sea should have just sold this as a lightly carbonated mango juice. Pours an amazing orange colour and the intoxicating scent of mango will work its way into every inch of your nasal cavity as well as your palate. These cats are definitely a brewery to watch.

Bodriggy - Stingray Draught

Suggested Glass - Pint Glass Serving Temp - 2-4°

What they say - Stingrays Draught is a beer that every Tom, Dick and Harry (and Harriet) can enjoy. Filtered and fermented at a cool temperature to keep it clean and refreshing this froff served ice cold will never let you down. Stay a while on a Stingrays Draught.

What we say - The can design is reminiscent of a pack of cigarettes from the 70’s/80’s - a time when things were simpler. There was no Covid 19, no social media and no reality TV. This is just a no frills beer for after work or the weekend. Hell, this would have been the perfect beer for Big Day Out. Hot summer days, rock and roll and cold beer.
